The 3M Tournament
A football idea from 2023, part of my "Stupid Ideas Lab", that came to my mind again after these latest crazy days.
💰 💵 💶 Now that the FIFA kerfuffle is over, the good news is we know there is a lot of capital ready to be invested in great football.
So this morning I thought, let's extract from my idea archives, or should I say "Stupid Idea Lab", what I tried hard to have someone listen to, with zero success, at the start of 2023, a month after my solo career began.
Maybe this time I will be luckier...
The idea
It's called
⚽ THE 3M TOURNAMENT 🇮🇹 🇪🇸 🏴
So the stupid idea is that I noticed that there are 3 big football cities starting with M, all with 2 great clubs, Madrid, Manchester, Milano, where the winner is the city, not the club.
1️⃣ 3-day tournament in summer
2️⃣ All clubs play each other, then 2 cities qualify for the final
3️⃣ In the final, each city fields one club for the first half and its rival for the second.
4️⃣ Involve the city as a whole, social and political value
5️⃣ Live streaming can be syndicated to players' social channels

⚽ Apart from the M thing, I love the idea of a city where the two clubs share one goal for once.
That is so revolutionary in today's fandom. A break from the daily confrontation for once, for the love of football.
💡 This is the original 2023 presentation, horrible slides I have to admit... but I left it untouched, pre-AI era.
Most people told me why it cannot work, but 2026 is not 2023 anymore... we have seen stuff. So, hope never dies.

P.S.: Some questions
Why not Munich? Second team not at the right level.
Beckham is now in Miami… why not Miami? Single team, that will be a stretch but Miami could host the first edition!
How do you make money with this. A lot of new football idea did not last very long. I don’t know exactly but let’s work together on that, a mix of traditional and a lot of new ways.
Those clubs will never accept. Fair point but it depends from the money or the way they are distributed.
The calòendar is already so full nobody needs a new tournament. True but yet…
